“Cooriedoon” is situated in Whiting Bay, 8 miles south of Brodick. Built in 1900,
it started life as the Whiting Bay Hotel, and in 1988, after an extensive interior
renovation it re-opened as Cooriedoon Nursing Home. In 2002 it became a Residential
and Nursing Home. It was established by Celia and Sandra Butler and has had a proud
history, as the testimonials show.

An elegant sandstone building, it is set in its own grounds and commands a position on the shorefront, thus enjoying panoramic views of the Firth of Clyde and the Holy Isle.
The temperate climate from the Gulf stream makes it an ideal place for retirement – a large percentage of the population has retired here in order to benefit from the tranquillity, beauty and less harsh climate.
The Home is registered with the Care Commission, offering continuity of care for elderly people who are still mainly independent but would like more company and security through to those who require full nursing care. It is the only Home on the Isle of Arran providing Nursing Care thus eliminating a move should dependency needs increase.
Accommodation is of a high standard, with bedrooms and public rooms all tastefully furnished. The beautiful public rooms benefit from large windows with wonderful garden and seascape views.
Outside we have extensive patio and garden relaxation areas with lawns and water feature.
There are single and double bedrooms, most with en suite facilities and sea views. Residents are encouraged to bring their own small personal items, such as, a favourite armchair, TV, DVD/video player, music centre, footstool, ornaments, bookcase and pictures, in order to give their room a more familiar feel. Every room is linked by Nurse Call System and a lift gives access to the upper floor for those who cannot manage the stairs.
We have always striven to make Cooriedoon a home away from home, a happy caring environment where families and friends can truly relax when visiting residents. As a family-run home we are aware that support is vital not only to the residents, but also to their families.
The Home is staffed by a dedicated team of Registered Nurses, Senior Care Officers, Care Assistants, an Administrative Assistant, Cooks, Catering Assistants, Housekeepers, and a maintenance manager.
They are led by Partner and Business Manager Sandra Butler. Her many years of experience are reflected not only in the smooth running of the Home, but also in the calibre of her staff.
All Care Homes in Scotland have been graded in 2008 by the Care Commission. The themes graded were Quality of Life Experience, Quality of Environment, Quality of Staffing & Quality of Management. High quality care is our top priority at Cooriedoon. From arrival, residents and their families meet with staff to discuss their needs and form their personal plan of care. Residents receive warm, friendly and secure care, given sensitively, with an understanding of the individual’s needs. Maintaining dignity and respecting ones personal space are crucial. Cooriedoon is, indeed, a special place, with staff devoted to one common aim – to enable residents to lead a fulfilled and excellent quality of life by using a holistic approach to care.
Just like visiting someone in their own home, visitors are welcome and encouraged. If you would like to take a meal in the Home, just give us reasonable notice and we will arrange it for you. Please watch for posters advertising special occasions you may wish to join. If you want us to prepare a buffet for a family & friends occasion, just let us know and we can plan it together.

The tariff is inclusive of meals and laundry (except dry cleaning). Hairdressing, newspapers and personal toiletries are not included. Also residents should provide their own bottle for social evenings.
In November 2008 Sandra & Cooriedoon were nominated "Single Care Home Operator of
the Year" and were one of the 3 finalists at Scottish Care's Award Ceremony presented
by TV's Kaye Adams. This was an enormous accolade for the Home and completed our
20 Year celebrations. (pictured is Sandra between the other 2 finalists with Kaye
Adams to the right).
And if that accolade is not enough, in July 2009 we achieved for the 4th time our
Investors in People Recognition which awards companies for excellence in staff training
and development.
